Most Anticipated Movies Of 2013

With releases from Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott and Steve McQueen, 2013 looks like a great year for movie buffs. Here are some you shouldn’t miss.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug by Peter Jackson
Starring Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen, this is a sequel to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The Dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf have escaped the Misty Mountains, and Bilbo has gained the One Ring. They all continue their journey to get their gold back from the Dragon, Smaug. This movie will hit the screens sometime in late November or December.

Lovelace, starring Amanda Siegfried
An independent movie to be released sometime in March, Lovelace was directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, and the film is about porn actress Linda Lovelace, who was used and abused by the porn industry at the behest of her coercive husband, before taking control of her life.

The Counselor by Ridley Scott
The film, starring Michael Fassbender, with Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in supporting roles, is about a lawyer who finds himself over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking. Tentative date of release is sometime in late November or December.

The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, this movie is going to hit theatres in May. The Great Gatsby is a remake of the novel by Scott Fitzgerald. When Nick moves to Long Island, he finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and grand lifestyle of his neighbour Jay Gatsby. Drawn into Gatsby’s circle, he becomes a witness to obsession and tragedy.

G.I Joe: Retaliation by John M. Chu
With a star cast of Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and Ray Park, this movie is easily one of the most awaited in 2013. When Cobra spy Zartan has most of the Joes assassinated, the remaining Joes band together to strike back. The Joes of course will win, but it remains to be seen how. The movie will come out sometime in March.

Man of Steel by Zack Snyder
Starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe and Amy Adams, this is a Superman movie. A child sent to Earth from a dying planet is adopted by a couple in rural Kansas. Using his superhuman powers he protects his new home from an insidious evil. Tentatively releasing is on 14 June.bLOG mATTERS2                                                  G.I. The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine and this time he travels to Japan to train with a Samurai warrior. Directed by James Mangold, the star cast looks amazing with Will Yun Lee and Tao Okamoto. The movie will hit the screens in India sometime in July or August.

Twelve Years a Slave by Steve McQueen
There can hardly be a film-maker whose next project is more keenly awaited than Steve McQueen, who directed Hunger and Shame. This is a version of the remarkable true story of Solomon Northup, a black man who was born free in New York, kidnapped in Washington DC in 1841 and made to work as a slave in a Louisiana cotton plantation for 12 years. The film will come out in India in December.

Star Trek into Darkness by JJ Abrams
This is a movie that needs no introductions. Releasing on May 17, the greatest bromance is ready to hit theatres. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto return as Kirk and Spock, thrown into turmoil when they discover that a sinister agency from within their own organisation has destroyed the fleet. Kirk has to journey into a war zone to neutralize a terrible weapon. Thor: The Dark World by Alan Taylor
The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston. Thor fights against an ancient race of Dark Elves led by the vengeful Malekith who threatens to plunge the universe back into darkness after the events of The Avengers. The movie will be released tentatively on November 22.

Iron man 3 starring Robert Downey Jr.
Tony Stark is back in action to fight those who destroyed his private life. This movie, featuring Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce and Gwyneth Paltrow, is sure going to excite you when Tony Stark goes up against his most powerful enemy yet: the Mandarin. Watch out for this self-centred hero whose going to be as obnoxious as ever. The movie will most probably come out on 26 April.Iron Man 3
