First Look At Carrie Von Trapp – Er, Underwood – In Her ‘Sound Of Music’ Role

December last year, we learned that country sweetheart Carrie Underwood would take on the iconic role of Maria von Trapp in a live NBC production of the classic musical “The Sound of Music.” (Story Here)

For those who had a bit of trouble envisioning her in the role Julie Andrews made famous, fret no more. Underwood has tweeted a first look at herself in the costume — braids, billowing sleeves, look of bliss on her face. See for yourselves:carriesoundofmusic

Okay, so it’s a little bit weird. (Feel free to shout out in comments if you disagree.) And, it’s not completely true to the original — Underwood’s laced-up corset-style bodice appears a little sexier than the apron-styled getup Andrews sported on the 1960s promotional poster. Looks as if her costume designer decided a crisp white blouse would be a spunkier update to Andrews’s old-fashioned black one, as well.

soundofmusicWell, I’m sure the multi-Grammy-winning Nashville superstar will do Rodgers and Hammerstein proud, at least on the vocal end of things.

NBC’s live holiday production of “The Sound of Music” will air on December 5. Be sure to tune in and see if Underwood has unlocked the solution to solving a problem like Maria.
