Beyoncé reportedly sells 80,000 Copies of surprise album in three hours

celebs 1The superstar Beyoncé shocked the music world and her doting fans when she randomly released her self-titled fifth studio album on Thursday last night. The Internet went wild, as there was no promo, marketing or any other sort of indicator that forewarned of the release. Instead of going through publicists and whatnot, Beyoncé simply informed fans of the release herself, directing them to iTunes where they could purchase and download the album. Well folks, the BeyHive has spoken and what they’re saying is that neither marketing nor promo is necessary to make their Queen No. 1.

According Billboard, the iTunes exclusive ‘visual’ album sold over 80,000 copies in just a three-hour sale window. At least that’s what industry sources are saying. Though it’s tough to predict how the album will perform over the course of the next three days, it appears that she’s already breaking records. Industry insiders say that the album’s release was so top-secret that only a dozen (give or take a few) members of her Sony Music team were even aware that the album would be released last night. Forbes is predicting that Blue Ivy’s mama’s shocking release could make 2014 her most successful year yet.

“FORBES calculates earnings on the half-year, meaning that the scoring period for 2014 will run from June 2013 to June 2014,” writes Zack O’Malley Greenburg. “Beyoncé is already scheduled for 83 shows during that span, and that’s not counting additional bookings that could fill up April and May. She’s currently grossing over $2 million per city, according to Pollstar. Factoring in merchandise sales at her sold-out shows, that means she’s likely taking home somewhere around $1 million per night–if not more–before paying out agents, managers and Uncle Sam. Those sorts of touring numbers alone should be enough to equal Beyoncé’s best years to date.”

Beyoncé is definitely winning. That’s undeniable.

Have you purchased the new album? What are your thoughts so far?
