Again with the shots fired at Igbos | Femi Fani-Kayode speaks his mind on the Stella Oduah scandal

Femi-Fani-Kayode-Stella-Oduah-January-2014-BellaNaija-600x421Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode is known to speak out on issues concerning the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And when the news of the present Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah Ogiemwonyi falsifying her resume was reported, it didn’t take long for him to air his views.

He responded via his official Facebook page. Although calling Stella as well as President Goodluck Jonathan and the government “an utter disgrace to Nigeria” may be taken as an act of freedom of speech, Femi made a startling statement against the Igbos. Check it out!Femi-Fani-Kayode-January-2014-BellaNaija

“I wonder if our Igbo brothers and sisters will allege that all those that condemn Stella Oduah’s shameless lies and false declarations, under oath, before the Nigerian Senate that she acquired a masters degree from some second rate American university are nothing but “Igbo haters” who have a hidden agenda?

“Honestly, this woman, this government, this President and all those that support them are an utter disgrace to Nigeria and to Africa. Even with all this I assure you that our President will not be able to muster the courage and decency to be firm and decisive and to fire this vampire Minister. And we all know why though we dare not say it.

“We are a nation that is being governed by a bunch of scammers, cheats, liars, rogues, 419ner’s, adulterers and ritualists. May God rid us of this evil and shameless government with it’s inner circle and tiny cabal of desperate, heartless and greedy Jezebels.”

The statement has sparked a lot of debate on Facebook as to why culture had to be brought into the mix. Should Igbos be offended by this? And why on earth does this man always sound like he wants a second civil war outbreak in Nigeria? Abeg can somebody answer me that…

Saying FFK is a butthole has become a cliche. Can’t he just speak against Mrs Oduah’s deeds and misdeeds without roping in all his ‘kinsmen’ and ‘women’?

I have never been an Oduah supporter. And I know many Igbos who are not either. I get mad when I read things like “YOU PEOPLE have been supporting her evil…” Who are “YOU PEOPLE”? You haven’t heard my opinion about the woman, but concluded on the basis of my ethnicity that I must be on her side. Generalization is the mother of bigotry. Generalizations like ‘our Igbo brothers and sisters” are the reason we’ve been killing and hating each other since 1945.

FFK will claim he wasn’t being tribalistic. But when he posted this on his wall, his Yoruba friends on facebook leapt in with ethnic slurs against Igbos. He made no effort to correct them. But he did tell the one Igbo guy who criticized him for generalizing that Igbos supported Mrs Oduah to ‘fly off’ (which I take to be euphemism for “fuck off”)

    It is well sha.

With all due respect Mr Nonso Nnajide, while FFK is wrong and takes his comments too far, SOME Igbos do the same to people from other tribes. I assure you I played no part in the Biafran War neither did the majority of the (current) residents of Plateau and Benue States but comments like “Nemesis has caught up with them,” and “these people should just kill themselves finish” on News Stories like Fulani Herdsmen Kill 8, or Boko Haram kill 20 do not exactly fill our hearts with pleasure. I think these comments are as unfair as FFK’s comments. I am not saying that evil should be repaid with evil, all I am saying is someone is going to have to be the bigger person because it is not a one sided thing.

Mr Walter, a lot of the whites who stereotype and racially profile African Americans have received better quality education than FFK.

      • Nonso Nnajide’s attack was focused on FFK. He did not say all Yorubas are guilty of racially discriminating against Igbos. And I didn’t say all educated Africans are idiots. Again, our focus was on a man who should know better than to spout the tribalistic nonsense he’s acquired a penchant for.

My point to you was that even educated people can stereotype others regardless of the ‘quality’ of their education. The only cure for that is getting to know the other person or giving others the benefit of the doubt. I didn’t say that you said that educated Africans are idiots, and I think you know that.
My point to Mr. Nonso was that in my opinion it is a cycle, as long as FFK sees reasons to keep going he will keep going. Obviously there are some things that are beyond our control, but a good number of things can be fixed by us.

      • Amen to that last part.

Femi, omo Fani- Kayode of ‘Isokuso’ Central has come again o. One can just tell how idle he is. And I thought Women were the ones who are meant to be the experts when it comes to nagging, but FFK takes the cake and he’s supposedly a Man, no???. That mouth of his needs to be washed out with a good measure of first grade detergent and then bleached out with Sulphuric Acid for great measure and lasting effects. Tribalism and generalization, the bane of the Nigerian society, pretty sad!

  6. i don’t see this as an attack on the ibos, he asked questions, though sarcastic yet true, judging by his past fiasco with the ibo nation, i think he used those questions to serve as a disclaimer before taking shots at both the president and oduah, so when he does take the shots certain people won’t take it personal atleast then it would seem like he was being patriotic.
And that too was a tact, because we all know that if he had taken shot at oduah alone some of you will see it as part of his propaganda against the ibos

FFK is disturbed, we all know, so not everything he says should be taken seriously
