Celeb Of The Week

1456620_389659997830579_1884098879_nMeet Sifa Asani Gowon, the beautiful writer of the series, Heart Of A King, and author of the novel I’ve been raving about recently, Playing By Her Rules. She was also my classmate in the Farafina 2013 Creative Writing Workshop. In between talks with Chimamanda Adichie and laughs at Eghosa Imaseun’s humourous one-liners, Sifa, like every other person in the room, managed to reveal different parts of her personality to the rest of us.

One, she’s a very witty person.

Two, she’s a great storyteller. I’d tell you about the wonders she did with our Da Vinci Code assignment, but there isn’t room for that here.

And three, she bakes. Yep, she even managed to make us brownies at some point during the Farafina experience. When asked, she admits to experimenting with baking recipes, using her family and friends as guinea pigs. ‘Thank God I haven’t killed anyone with food poisoning,’ she quips.

She started writing at 27 years old; actually wrote a novel before Playing By Her Rules, but she doesn’t think it’s something she can publish as it is. She tries to merge her Christian principles in her writing, and sometimes, she doesn’t find it easy. Plus, she’s an incurable romantic. This is one Nigerian writer I’ve read and I felt the nostalgic touch of my Mills and Boon days.

She’s married with two lovely kids, little darlings she looks at and wonders how she pulls the motherhood thing off…when she still feels like a little kid herself many times.

Oh, and she’s constantly perplexed at why some women hide their ages. She claims to always tell hers when asked. *pause* Is anyone going to ask her, or should I? 🙂SAM_0183moiPBHRIMG-20130815-01440
