‘Dear Woman…’ A message from the men

Idris-ElbaAnd that’s telling the women, for sure. Lol

Hilarious: The Story Of A Working Mum

Have you ever wondered, in one insane moment, why mothers are so cherished? Why a day and several moments are taken out of every year to celebrate them? Why the world resonates with the goodness of a mother, more than any other species on earth?

Well, to satisfy that insane moment, I found a hilarious story written by a new mother, and a new friend, one I think you’d all love. I could have copied it and pasted it here from her blog, but I would rather y’all bear with me and read it straight from the horse’s . . . er, mother’s mouth.

Read and enjoy: Mum’s the word (Working mum, that is…) by Chidimma Ezike

Dear MMS Readers: This is an emergency call for a husband

singles 18On this fateful afternoon, we had over fifteen matters in court and three for trial in the afternoon. I was just too upset. Why was I being made to suffer and sit endlessly for other people’s problems? Haba! This EFCC matter to add to my problem, just had to go on and on, and these people can like to over-flog issues, particularly in cases like this where one correct yahoo boy was standing trial.

So, out of boredom, I decided take a walk, anything to get out of the courtroom where the only option is to listen to this unintelligent, boring, shoot-me-in-the-head line of questioning going on. I was already exhausted and looking at enduring three more trials. I was wondering when my misery would end. One of those days you just get tired of doing the same thing. I took my walk and crossed to the other magistrate court to retrieve an original case file, hoping the police prosecutor wouldn’t waste my time. (more…)

Hilarious! The Things They Say…in reaction to the anti-gay law

This is a Facebook update that belongs to a friend of mine, Eketi Ette. It’s her satiric reaction to the certain ambiguousness inherent in the bill reportedly signed by President Jonathan which criminalizes same-sex relationships and gay rights groups in Nigeria. It’s a hilarious read. Enjoy.

I’m now Playing By Her Rules

IMG-20140111-00019I finally got Sifa’s book, Playing By Her Rules, today. And it was no mean feat. I had to comb through 7 mountains and 7 valleys and 7 forests and 7 seas just to get to it. And so far, it’s proving to be worth it.

On the right from Ikeja to Festac, I was able to gobble two chapters. And I caught myself either grinning foolishly or biting back laughter at intervals, because I was entertained by the fiction. Sifa is a witty storyteller; those of you familiar with her stories on this blog don’t need to be told that. And this novel is no exception. The wit and humour is endless. Here, let me share an excerpt with you guys. (more…)

The many reasons why James Blunt is a warrior in the Twitter battlefield

BC9547B7C59935B416EB9D442408E_h498_w598_m2 (1)I used to think Rihanna was the only celebrity who trolls on the social media shouldn’t mess with. I never reckoned with pop star James Blunt. The guy may have a soothing singing voice, but he also has a rather sharp (and hilarious) tongue on him, returning perfectly crafted smackdowns at trolls who take a pop at him on Twitter.

Damn! I have been laughing ever since I stumbled on his tweets. And you will too. Check on it. (more…)

Tweet of the day

When I blinked awake at the first light of dawn on this first day of 2014, I glanced at my phone and saw a ping from a friend. She had a question – Did you make any New Year resolutions?

Of course I didn’t. I think New Year resolutions are a cliché, a waste of breath, governed by some regret from the ending year and a hope for the new year. And then I was going through some old write-ups and I dug up a piece I’d like to share with you. A satirical piece about resolutions that I wrote some years back (I think I was doing my NYSC then), and I hope you will now enjoy.

When New Year started, most of us started putting into practice the resolutions that we will probably break by the time Easter swings by. We are only humans, after all. However, I have made five resolutions which I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to keep. (more…)
