We could live out on the open plains
And scuttle about gaily when it rains
I’d bring the soap, you could bring the sponge
And in the muddy rain-pond we both would plunge
I could scrub your back and you could scrub mine
Who needs them towels, we’d dry in sunshine
Passers-by say, “They’re a pair of loons”.
But what do they know? They’re really goons
They smile at parties and say, “Heck, I’m fine!”
Then wish they could kill their sorrows with gulps of wine
So come, lie with me on these airy meadows
Let’s laugh about houses with their little windows
I could write love poems for you on these sands
Sweet words to stimulate your tear glands
Or I could carve them here on these trees
Where they’d never be wiped by winds or seas
Let’s watch the egrets fly and the squirrels scurry
And pretend it’s NatGeoWild or Discovery
You hungry? I could fetch you berries
Cook you wild ducks spiced with curries
And when the night comes and the cold too
Don’t ever ponder over what we gonn’ do
Just lit a fire; come, share my blanket
Let’s cuddle close and sleep like a twin-set.
