Marvel quashes plans for a movie crossover of X-Men and Avengers

Hugh-Jackman-Wolverine-Chris-Evans-Captain-America-570x427Marvel Studios has ”no plans” for an ‘X-Men’ and ‘Avengers Assemble’ crossover movie.

Although President of Production Kevin Feige thinks the idea – championed by ‘Wolverine’ star Hugh Jackman, who wants to team up with Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man – would be ”fun”, it isn’t on their radar for the immediate future.

Speaking during a Jameson’s Done In 60 Seconds Google Hangout online Q&A for Empire magazine, Feige said: ”There’s certainly no plans right now. Enough amazing things have happened in the 13 years that I’ve been at Marvel, I never say never to things like that. But I don’t think it’ll be any time soon.

”’The Avengers’ have so many stories to tell. It’s not like creatively we need or want to include the X-Men, but as a fan I think it would be fun. It’s Phase 27!”

The 44-year-old actor would love his clawed anti-hero alter-ego and Spider-Man to team up with Marvel superheroes who appeared in ‘Avengers Assemble’, and while he knows it will be difficult to implement, he is confident his ‘X-Men’ mutant will land a role in the sequel. (more…)

Avengers Cast Demand Sequel Pay Rise

1Marvel is reportedly in tense negotiations with the cast of ‘The Avengers 2’.

The Disney-owned movie studio has yet to secure key actors including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth for the sequel to last year’s smash hit superhero blockbuster – which grossed $1.5 billion worldwide – as they are hoping to land big money deals, reports Deadline.

‘Iron Man 3’ star Downey recently confirmed he was paid $50 million, consisting of an upfront payment and a percentage of the film’s box office profits, for ‘The Avengers’ and is now reportedly spearheading efforts for his cast mates to negotiate better deals for the follow-up film after some of them received just $200,000 for the first flick.
