Avengers Cast Demand Sequel Pay Rise

1Marvel is reportedly in tense negotiations with the cast of ‘The Avengers 2’.

The Disney-owned movie studio has yet to secure key actors including Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth for the sequel to last year’s smash hit superhero blockbuster – which grossed $1.5 billion worldwide – as they are hoping to land big money deals, reports Deadline.

‘Iron Man 3’ star Downey recently confirmed he was paid $50 million, consisting of an upfront payment and a percentage of the film’s box office profits, for ‘The Avengers’ and is now reportedly spearheading efforts for his cast mates to negotiate better deals for the follow-up film after some of them received just $200,000 for the first flick.A source said: ”He’s the only guy with real power in this situation, and balls of steel, too. He’s already sent a message that he’s not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like s**t.”

Marvel, meanwhile, has allegedly responded by threatening to sue actors who have long-term contracts for multiple movies which have not been fulfilled, as well as threatening to recast roles.

Lead stars including Downey, Hemsworth, Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson are still in negotiations for the movie, while it’s thought ‘Captain America’ actor Chris Evans signed on for the flick when he agreed to make ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, which is due next year.
